What a fantastic day we had on September 30, 2023, at the Evil Genius Brewery in Philadelphia! South Asian Americans For Change (SAAFC) brought our community together for a vibrant and enriching afternoon from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Our “Social Hour with SAAFC” was not just an event; it was a celebration of South Asian culture, complete with stunning art exhibitions, tasty food, and refreshing drinks. Attendees enjoyed an exclusive sneak peek of the compelling docu-series “Breaking the Silence,” which delves into the lives and challenges of South Asian men in relation to mental health. The event was topped off with an engaging Q&A with the creators and cast, making it a truly enlightening experience. It was a perfect day to unwind, connect, and grow with an amazing group of people who share a love for culture and community.

On May 20, 2023, South Asian Americans For Change (SAAFC) hosted an inspiring and thought-provoking Mother’s Day brunch at Philadelphia Distilling. The event, titled “Loving the Skin I’m In,” offered a safe and supportive space to discuss colorism and the harmful beauty standards affecting South Asian American communities. Attendees enjoyed a selection of cocktails and mocktails alongside an immersive art experience designed to celebrate and honor natural beauty. The highlight was a fireside chat with Nina Davuluri, discussing the impacts of colorism and her documentary, COMPLEXion. This special brunch provided a perfect opportunity for mothers, daughters, and loved ones to begin meaningful conversations and embark on a journey of self-acceptance and healing.
